A CCUS demonstration project will be built in the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base

On September 15, 2021, Wu Xiuzhang, Deputy Secretary of the Ningxia Autonomous Region Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Ningdong Base, presided over a symposium on the CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) demonstration project at the Ningdong Base. The Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of the autonomous region, ** Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Co., Ltd., China National Petroleum Corporation’s Changqing Oilfield Branch, and ** Energy Group Ningxia Coal Industry Co., Ltd. attended the meeting. At the meeting, Tao Shaohua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of the Ningdong Base, introduced the current development status of the Ningdong Base, its carbon emission levels, the advantages for carrying out CCUS projects, as well as the preliminary ideas for a CCUS demonstration project in the Ningdong Base ； **Jiao Hongqiao, deputy general manager of Ningxia Coal Industry Co., Ltd. under the Energy Group, presented the current situation regarding carbon dioxide emissions at the company, and determined the amount of high-purity carbon dioxide that can be emitted by the enterprise as well as its sources of emission ； Li Songquan, the chief geologist of CNPC Changqing Oilfield Branch, introduced the basic situation of Changqing Oilfield, its development in the Ningxia region, as well as the preliminary concepts for CCUS, the progress of CCUS trials at Changqing Oilfield, and the advancements in research on carbon dioxide-driven oil extraction technology ； **Shen Chen, General Manager of the Engineering Department at PetroChina Pipeline Network Group Company, introduced the development progress of the pipeline network group, stating that efforts are being made to carry out investigations and research from various aspects as well as to implement comprehensive and systematic plans, in order to work together with relevant parties to advance the CCUS project in Ningxia. Wu Xiuzhang pointed out that ****’s series of major announcements and important statements regarding carbon neutrality and achieving peak carbon emissions have set clear goals and directions for China in addressing climate change and pursuing green, low-carbon development; they also present significant challenges for the high-quality development of the modern coal chemical industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage technology, as an important method for reducing emissions, can serve as a strong support for achieving the \"dual carbon\" goals, thanks to the gradual improvement of relevant policies in recent years and the continuous advancement of this technology. The development of CCUS projects at the Ningdong facility is of great significance, as it helps to promote the clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient use of energy, and accelerates the advancement of the industry in the directions of higher sophistication, greener practices, greater intelligence, and greater integration. All parties present agreed to establish a working liaison mechanism to enhance communication and accelerate the implementation of the CCUS demonstration project at the Ningdong base, thereby contributing to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality in that area.
