Joint Laboratory for Carbon Neutrality,” jointly established by the two institutions, along with the launch ceremony for the pilot project aimed at producing 10,000 tons of methanol from carbon dioxide at the Waisan Power Plant and the demonstration project for a production capacity of 300,000 tons, were held at the Shenneng Energy Center. It is reported that in recent years, East China University of Science and Technology has made significant efforts in advancing technological innovation in the fields of energy chemistry, efficient utilization of resources, and green and low-carbon development, achieving a range of important results. In recent years, SHENENG Group has placed great emphasis on technological innovation, making full use of cutting-edge technologies in areas such as electricity and oil and gas, and has achieved very good results. The university and the enterprise have maintained a good cooperative relationship for a long time, and have established cooperation platforms such as the \"Huali-Sheneng Energy Big Data Joint Research Center,\" which lays a solid foundation for both parties to deepen their collaboration in the new context of economic and social changes as well as industrial structure adjustments in China. According to the terms of the agreement, the laboratory will focus its efforts on research related to the comprehensive utilization of carbon. The two parties will carry out research in areas such as converting carbon dioxide from power plant flue gas into methanol, converting it into olefins, and using it to produce other high-value chemicals; further areas may be added as needed. Relying on this project, both parties will deepen the engineering experiments and applications of their existing inventions regarding the process of capturing carbon dioxide from flue gas of thermal power units to produce methanol. They will conduct applied basic research, research on key technologies, scale-up engineering, and the construction of industrial-scale facilities, with the aim of establishing a pilot demonstration project for carbon dioxide capture from thermal power flue gas to produce methanol. During the ceremony, the Joint Laboratory for Carbon Neutrality between East China University of Science and Technology and Shenneng Co., Ltd. was inaugurated; at the same time, the pilot project for producing methanol from carbon dioxide at a scale of 10,000 tons per year, as well as the demonstration project with a capacity of 300,000 tons per year, were officially launched.
