Latest Progress on Yunnan Jiehua’s Large-Scale Coal Chemical Project Author/Source: Energy & Chemical Industry Updates Date: 2022-01-04 Clicks: 34 On the morning of December 22, 2021, a delegation of 6 people led by Gu Junfei and Zhang Wenbin from Beijing Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. visited the company to discuss cooperation on the relocation and transformation project of Jiehua, as well as the optimization of coal gasification technology. Over the following three days, the gasification expert team from the aerospace company held in-depth discussions with the company’s chief engineering office and the engineering technicians at the dimethyl ether plant regarding the production and operation of cloud coal furnaces, as well as the equipment conditions and existing problems. After becoming familiar with the details of the Yunmei furnace, the expert group will propose optimization measures and solutions to address its shortcomings. During this visit by the aerospace company, discussions were also held regarding future cooperation between the two parties on the relocation, transformation, and upgrading project of Jiehua, laying the foundation for further collaboration. Project Overview: The relocation and transformation project of the Petrochemical Branch is planned to be carried out in the Chemical Industry Park in Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province. To optimize and upgrade the 500,000 tons per year ammonia synthesis plant and its downstream products, efforts are being made to transform and develop a 1.8 million tons per year methanol plant, as well as facilities for producing carbon-based new materials from methanol. The main products and downstream products include 1.8 million tons per year of methanol and related carbon-based new materials, as well as 500,000 tons per year of liquid ammonia and downstream products such as nitric acid, *ao acid an, nitro fertilizers, urea, concentrated nitric acid, and calcium nitrate. The project is expected to require an investment of 20 billion yuan, with an annual coal consumption of around 7.5 million tons; the facility will cover an area of 250 hectares. In November 2020, the Jiehua Chemical Branch of Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd. signed a contract with Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. for the preparation of a feasibility study report on a large-scale coal chemical project aimed at relocation, transformation, and upgrading; thus, the work on preparing the project’s feasibility study report was officially launched. Air Products (China) Investment Co., Ltd. intends to invest in, construct, and own certain units of the facility under this project, and to provide operational services for the installed equipment.
