Recently, Huarui Company installed emergency isolation valves at the inlets and outlets of 3 liquid ammonia spheres in strict accordance with standard requirements. Over a period of 3 days, all the inlet and outlet isolation valves for the 3 liquid ammonia spherical tanks were installed, and they are now in operation, performing well. In accordance with standard requirements, double isolation valves must be used at the inlets and outlets of liquid ammonia spheres. Previously, only one isolation valve was installed at the inlets and outlets of the 3 liquid ammonia spheres, which did not meet the requirements for safe production; therefore, Huarui Company carried out targeted modifications. The relevant workshops of the company prepared all necessary construction plans in advance according to the project schedule, and conducted training for all employees. The three liquid ammonia spherical tanks were processed sequentially: tank transfer, pressure relief and replacement, installation of blind flanges, addition of cut-off valves, valve calibration, removal of blind flanges, pressure testing for leaks, and commissioning – the entire process was carried out safely and in an orderly manner.
To be honest, I have no idea which idiotic expert came up with this design for dual shut-off valves. When liquid ammonia is exposed to heat, it expands rapidly; once the dual shut-off valves close, a sealed space is created between them, and the expansion of the liquid ammonia can cause the pipes to overpressurize and burst, resulting in even greater hazards
