Jiutai Energy (Jungar) to Invest 485 Million Yuan in a Supplementary Project for Methanol-to-Olefins Production; Author/Source: Chemical Industry Network – Coal Chemicals; Date: February 25, 2020; Clicks: 72. Recently, Jiutai Energy (Jungar) Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia Co., Ltd., plans to apply for approval for a supplementary project aimed at further processing methanol. The total investment for this project is 485 million yuan, and it will be constructed at the Dalu Coal Chemicals Base in Jungar Banner, Ordos City. The product plan for this project involves using C4, one of the by-products from the deep processing of methanol, as raw material. The oxidation-dehydrogenation process technology developed by Shandong Qilu Petrochemical Engineering Company is employed, and through three production units – those for MTBE and 1-butene, oxidation-dehydrogenation, and 1,3-butadiene extraction – the main products are 1,3-butadiene, MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether), and 1-butene. The by-products include butane and C4 residue. The capacity of the production facilities is 0.7x104 tons per year for MTBE, 2.5x104 tons per year for 1-butene, and 7x104 tons per year for 1,3-butadiene. Construction details: The main part of the project consists of three production units for MTBE and 1-butene, oxidation dehydrogenation, and 1,3-butadiene extraction. http://img.yf116.cn/image/img/20200225/154945694487.jpg Process flow: High-purity methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), 1-butene, and 1,3-butadiene are produced using raw material butane-4 through the technology of Shandong Qilu Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. MTBE is an important additive for high-octane gasoline, and 1-butene is a copolymerizing monomer in polyethylene plants. The production process consists of three units: MTBE and 1-butene, oxidation dehydrogenation, and 1,3-butadiene extraction. The methanol deep processing project of Jutai Energy (Jungar) Co., Ltd. began construction in 2013, with an intended investment of 8.28 billion yuan. The project utilizes advanced technology from the American company UOP to produce low-carbon olefins from methanol; as of now, the overall completion rate of the project is over 85%, and it is expected to generate annual profits and taxes of 2.5 billion yuan once it is put into operation. With a production capacity of 600,000 tons of olefins, the plan is to produce 280,000 tons of polyethylene, 320,000 tons of polypropylene, 80,000 tons of butadiene, 25,000 tons of butene-1, 6,000 tons of MTBE, 60,000 tons of oil products and liquefied petroleum gas, and 80,000 tons of styrene-butadiene rubber. Jiutai Energy (Zhungeer) Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia Co., Ltd. At present, the Jiutai Group has established four coal chemical projects in Inner Mongolia: one project operated by Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia Co., Ltd. that produces 1 million tons of methanol and 100,000 tons of dimethyl ether, and which began operations in 2010 ; Jiutai Energy (Ordos) Co., Ltd.’s 500,000-ton ethylene glycol project (200,000 tons in the first phase) ; Jiutai Energy (Zhungeer) Co., Ltd.’s 600,000-ton peroxide project, as well as Inner Mongolia Jiutai New Materials Co., Ltd.’s 1 million-ton ethylene glycol and 1.8 million-ton PTA projects.
