“\"Key variables\" drive green growth Author/Source: Shaanxi Daily Date: 2022-02-11 Clicks: 11 On the southern edge of the Maowusu Desert in Jingbian, Yulin, lies a green energy and chemical industry zone – the Jingbian County Economic and Technological Development Zone, which houses the world’s first facility for the integrated utilization of coal, oil, and gas. Every day, through the complex transformation processes carried out by this facility, coal, oil, and natural gas are converted into pure and transparent polyolefin particles, thereby enabling the transformation of raw materials into high-value chemical products through a shift from black and white states. On January 13, the reporter went to the site of this project and what came into view were neatly arranged silver-colored pipes and sealed containers. As a facility for processing and transforming coal, oil, and gas, there was not a trace of coal dust or oil stains on site, nor was there any unusual odor. “The advantages of this project lie in the combination of coal, oil, and gas, the complementarity of hydrocarbons, as well as the comprehensive utilization of materials. It enables clean and efficient conversion of resources and promotes the green and low-carbon development of the energy industry; as a result, it was designated as a United Nations Demonstration and Promotion Project for Clean Coal Technology. ”As explained by Shen Youcai, deputy general manager of Shaanxi Yanchang China Coal Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. As a **first-class energy and chemical industry base, under the challenge of high-quality development, the transformation and upgrading of Yulin’s energy and chemical industry have become both urgent and necessary. The pressure and motivation arising from this sense of urgency are not only well understood by the management of Shaanxi Yanchang Zhongmei Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., the largest polyolefin supplier in Shaanxi Province, but also by the managers of many other energy and chemical enterprises in the region. Shen Youcai admitted that, as the company behind the world’s first comprehensive utilization project for coal, oil, and gas resources, it bears an extraordinary mission: not only to continue to drive the advanced development of the energy and chemical industry, but also to set an example in green and low-carbon development. Today, this “green” facility that has risen up in the Maowusu Desert has found a “solution” for what to do with industrial wastewater. With the support of 14 advanced technologies, this project has overcome the bottlenecks in the treatment of high-concentration brine by energy and chemical enterprises; it is capable of converting such brine into sodium chloride products and recycled water, enabling the recovery of 4 to 5 million tons of industrial wastewater each year. Driven by the pioneers, more and more energy and chemical enterprises in Yulin are seeking new development. By relying on new processes, the company increased its production capacity, reduced costs, and achieved the goal of lowering energy consumption. As a typical resource-based city, it continuously drives industrial transformation and upgrading through technological innovation, which serves as an important guarantee for Yulin to implement the new development concepts, integrate into the new development pattern, and strive to pursue a path of high-quality development centered on the green and low-carbon development of energy. In Yulin, an increasing number of energy and chemical enterprises are using high-quality projects as a foundation and technological innovation as a driving force to promote the transformation and upgrading of the energy and chemical industry. Zhang Shengli, mayor of Yulin City, said that in the context of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which represents a window of opportunity for resource-based cities to undergo transformation and upgrading, Yulin should adhere to the principle that focusing on high-quality projects is equivalent to pursuing high-quality development. It is necessary to work on attracting investment as well as fostering technological innovation, while using dual controls on energy consumption to drive industrial structure transformation and advancements in technology. Today, as Yulin has set out a development path aimed at accelerating the advancement of the energy and chemical industry toward higher levels of sophistication, end-use orientation, and sustainability, technological innovation – this \"key factor\" – continues to create new opportunities through its interaction with this industry.
