The ethylene glycol liquid-phase hydrogenation unit in Binzhou has been put into operation. Author/Source: WeiHua Group. Date: 2022-03-01. Clicks: 11. Recently, Binzhou Company received more good news as its ethylene glycol liquid-phase hydrogenation unit was successfully commissioned and is now operating stably; this unit represents the first energy-saving and consumption-reducing technological project implemented by Binzhou Company. This project involves adding an ethylene glycol liquid-phase hydrogenation unit, which enables qualified ethylene glycol to undergo a liquid-phase hydrogenation reaction to remove trace organic impurities from it; this approach effectively increases the proportion of high-quality ethylene glycol products and enhances the long-term operational efficiency of the facility. The project was approved on June 3, 2020, with an investment of approximately 7.35 million yuan. Thanks to the valuable suggestions and recommendations provided by the various management levels and production departments at Binzhou Company regarding the startup and operation of the plant, as well as the thorough preparations made in advance by the ethylene glycol workshop and the good cooperation among different departments, the project was put into operation on February 9, 2022. Ongoing optimizations have since been carried out, and to date the proportion of ethylene glycol suitable for use in polyester production has been increased from 93% to 100%. This has improved the yield of ethylene glycol products while reducing the amount of by-products produced, ultimately allowing the overall capacity of the ethylene glycol plant to reach 110%. Based on a price difference of 600 yuan per ton between polyester-grade material and qualified product, the operation of this project can generate approximately 17 million yuan in economic benefits for the company each year. “Our experience and achievements are mainly reflected in clarifying the positioning and objectives for project initiation, and in meeting those objectives through diligent efforts. Continuously learning new technologies, keeping abreast of emerging trends, and having a forward-looking perspective on technological development are the starting points for us in the chemical industry; establishing a diversified industrial structure is the goal we strive to achieve. ”Yang Lei, the director of the ethylene glycol workshop, emphasized. At present, the ethylene glycol plant also features technological initiatives such as DMC purification, hydrogen recovery, and ORC power generation. In future operations, the plant will focus on advancing the implementation of these technological projects while ensuring the stable operation of its main equipment, striving to complete the testing processes on schedule and making greater contributions to the company’s efforts in saving energy, reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, and achieving overall efficiency improvements. The 300,000 tons per year coal-to-ethylene glycol project of Shaanxi Weihe Binzhou Chemical Co., Ltd., which is part of the Shaanxi Coal Chemical Industry Group, is the earliest coal-to-ethylene glycol project to be approved in Shaanxi Province; it serves as a model for this province, which is a major coal producer. The project is located within the Xinminyuan Modern Coal Chemical Industrial Park in Bin County, covering an area of 600,000 square meters. In April 2016, Shaanxi Weihe Binzhou Chemical Co., Ltd. signed a CTEG technology licensing agreement and an engineering design contract for a 300,000 tons per year coal-based ethylene glycol project with Gaoxuehui and Donghua Engineering. The original owner of the project was Shaanxi Binchang Mining Group Co., Ltd. On November 19, 2014, the 300,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol project of Binchang Mining Group was officially transferred to Shaanxi Weihe Coal Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. The project construction includes the main facilities such as gasification units, purification units, and ethylene glycol synthesis units, as well as auxiliary facilities for water supply and drainage, desalination stations, power supply, heating, and fire protection. It also encompasses storage and transportation systems, as well as environmental protection measures such as waste gas treatment, wastewater treatment, and solid waste disposal. Upon completion, the project will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of ethylene glycol; the by-products will include 17,576 tons of crude DMC per year, 5,336 tons of DMO reconstituted components per year, 5,920 tons of fusel oils per year, 13,440 tons of light fractions per year, 6,048 tons of heavy fractions of ethylene glycol per year, and 4,321.6 tons of sulfur per year. The total investment for the project is 5.495 billion yuan, of which 444 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures.
