**Latest Progress on Energy Group Yulin Chemical’s 50,000 t/year PGA Project Author/Source: Coal Chemicals Journal Date: 2022-04-10 Clicks: 16 On April 2, the installation of the first reactor in **Energy Group Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 50,000 t/year polyglycolic acid biodegradable materials (PGA) demonstration project was completed, laying the foundation for the operation of the prepolymerization unit. The second vacuum reactor lifted this time is an important reaction equipment in the prepolymerization unit of this project. It was manufactured by Lanzhou Lanshi Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd. and installed by China National Chemical Engineering Third Construction Company. Its specifications are Ф2 800×3 000 mm, with a weight of 46 tons; a 500-ton crane was used for the lifting operation, while a 25-ton crane was employed to assist in adjusting its position. To ensure the smooth completion of the lifting operation, the project team developed a thorough and scientific lifting plan. Meanwhile, personnel responsible for equipment, safety, and supervision organized everything carefully, maintained strict quality control, and adhered strictly to the requirements of construction safety standards. With the full cooperation of all parties involved, the second vacuum reactor was smoothly lifted and installed on the framework on the third floor of the prepolymerization unit. Project Overview: Project Name: **Shenhua Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. of the Energy Group – 50,000 t/a Polyglycolic Acid Production Facility**. Location: Northern Area of Qingshui Industrial Park, Yushen Industrial Zone, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. Total project investment (in ten thousand yuan): 94,024.98. Commencement date: March 2021. Construction scope includes a refining unit, a prepolymerization unit, a pyrolysis and cyclization unit, a purification unit, a solvent recovery unit, a final polymerization and molding unit, a packaging unit, as well as supporting facilities such as a refrigeration station, a heat transfer oil station, a plant substation, cabinet rooms, plant-wide systems, and a circulating water station (to be renovated). The 50,000 t/a polyglycolic acid (PGA) demonstration project is a **level demonstration project as well as an extension project for the coal-based olefins industry chain. It was established by the Energy Group in order to fully implement the guidelines calling for \"active measures to address plastic pollution and the promotion of alternative products that are recyclable, reusable, and biodegradable.\" It also reflects the group’s commitment to complying with policies aimed at restricting the use of non-biodegradable plastic products. Once put into production, it will mark a breakthrough of zero in China’s field of biodegradable plastics. Once completed, this project will enable the use of these materials in the medical field for applications such as sutures in traditional Chinese medicine, materials for fixing fractures, and scaffolds for tissue engineering. They can also be utilized in agriculture, forestry, food packaging, and other sectors. Not only do they meet the requirements for industrial composting, but they can also be used for home composting or burial in soil, and they can even degrade rapidly in harsh marine environments.
