(hereinafter referred to as “Jiyuan Coal Coking”) has reached its final stages. The installation of equipment and pipelines is nearly complete, and 75% of the work related to insulation and heat tracing has been finished. Currently, individual tests of the equipment are being carried out, with operation expected to begin in June 2020. Compared to traditional coal-based ethylene glycol projects, the investment and land requirements for ethylene glycol production from coke oven gas are relatively lower. The project construction does not involve the main equipment of the coal-to-ethylene glycol gas production unit, such as coal storage and transportation equipment, gasifiers, shift reactors, low-temperature methanol washing equipment, black water treatment equipment, sulfur recovery equipment, and liquefied gas stations; moreover, the air separation and boiler systems are also smaller than those in coal-to-ethylene glycol plants of similar scale. From the perspectives of resource utilization and the environment, reusing coke oven exhaust – from being waste gas in coking plants to a raw material for the production of ethylene glycol – helps reduce environmental pollution, and is in line with the industrial policies related to **green coking and the development of new material industries. It is understood that the 260,000 tons per year ethylene glycol production facility at Jianyuan Coal Coking is the world’s first plant to produce ethylene glycol using coke oven exhaust gas as raw material. It utilizes the syngas-based ethylene glycol production technology provided by Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd., with Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. being responsible for the engineering design. On-site construction of the project began in mid-March 2018.
