Utilizing Southwest Research Institute’s technology, the hydrogen production from coke oven gas combined with LNG production project in Hebei was put into operation. The cryogenic separation unit of Hebei Huafeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd.’s project for hydrogen production from coke oven gas combined with LNG production successfully started up on November 22, 2023, and began producing qualified LNG products, thus bringing the facility into operational status. According to the Southwest Branch, the project was mechanically completed on November 2, 2023. Catalyst sulfidation began on November 3 with the introduction of air. The 40,000 m3/h coke oven gas hydrogen production with LNG co-production project in Hebei Huafeng utilizes the methaneation technology for coke oven gas and the hydrogen-enriched off-gas purification hydrogen production technology, both of which are owned by Southwest Research Institute. It is also equipped with a range of proprietary and patented technologies and products developed by the Southwest Research Institute, such as coke oven gas purification, cryogenic liquefaction, catalysts, adsorbents, and programmable valves, all of which enjoy independent intellectual property rights. The Southwest Institute won the bid for this project in mid-June 2022. On-site civil work commenced in December 2022. In March 2023, the hydrogen purification unit was the first to be completed and tested successfully by CCCC. Construction of the main facility officially began in April this year. The total investment in this project is approximately 580 million yuan, and it covers an area of about 75 mu; it is one of the larger and most comprehensively equipped demonstration sites for the integrated utilization of hydrogen energy in China. Among them, the cryogenic liquefaction and separation as well as LNG storage equipment were designed by Shudao Equipment, and were shipped and installed in February 2023. Thanks to the diligent efforts of all parties involved, the project was completed in strict accordance with the planned schedule. The implementation of Huafeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd.’s project for producing hydrogen from coke oven gas along with LNG is in line with the \"14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Industry in Hebei Province\". It features comprehensive resource utilization, contribution to energy conservation and emission reduction, as well as advanced and reliable process technologies. This project utilizes excess coke oven gas to produce clean fuel, capable of generating 120,000 Nm3 of purified hydrogen per day. Once completed, it will yield around 90,000 tons of LNG per year, with annual sales revenue estimated at 530 million yuan; it will also create approximately 130 new jobs.
