Guided by the \"dual carbon\" goals, Geely’s progress in industrializing green and low-carbon technology innovations has reached an important milestone. Recently, the core equipment for its thousand-ton-scale pilot project on producing methanol via carbon dioxide hydrogenation has officially arrived at the pilot plant site in Shandong, and installation work has begun. This pilot project will, in an engineering environment, comprehensively verify the actual catalytic performance and long-term operational stability of Geely’s newly developed catalyst for the conversion of carbon dioxide and hydrogen into methanol, as well as the engineering feasibility of the new generation of process package technology. In 2023, Geely began developing new-generation technology for producing methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The new generation of technologies significantly improves the performance and lifespan of catalysts by creating unique two-dimensional layered structures and surface hydrophobicity. This catalyst has successfully been scaled up from laboratory-scale production in kilograms to industrial-scale production in tons, with its performance remaining consistent with that in the laboratory after the scale-up. Both the overall conversion rate of carbon dioxide and the overall selectivity for methanol exceed 99%; the space-time yield of methanol increases by more than 20%, and the service life can reach over 3 years. Furthermore, the accompanying next-generation process package technology can reduce the overall energy consumption for methanol production by 10%, and lower the production cost per ton of methanol by 6%. The successful development and application of the new generation of carbon dioxide hydrogenation methanol production technology represent a major breakthrough for China in this field. It has enabled the country to break the foreign technological monopoly, as well as achieve domestic production, self-control, and substitution of imported core catalysts and complete process technologies. This not only provides critical technical support for ensuring the safety and resilience of the **energy and chemical industry chain, but also injects strong momentum into achieving the **\"dual carbon\" goals. In the future, Geely will actively work together with industry partners to build a green methanol industry ecosystem. This will provide solid support for the practical application of next-generation green methanol technologies, continuous cost optimization, large-scale and efficient replication of these technologies, as well as the integration of all stages of the value chain. Such efforts will help accelerate the transition of these technologies from a laboratory-stage development to a market-driven status and full industrial maturity, while also enabling joint exploration of pathways for green energy transformation.
