Meanwhile, the share of ammonia production capacity using atmospheric-pressure batch coal gasification technology decreased by 15.3 percentage points relative to 2020. In terms of product structure, the total volume of green and efficient nitrogen fertilizers is increasing rapidly; in 2024, the production of efficient urea accounted for 8.1% of the total urea production, a 86% increase compared to 2020 ; The production of high-efficiency water-soluble fertilizers increased by 150% compared to 2020, with major types including water-soluble fertilizers containing major elements, water-soluble fertilizers containing medium elements, UAN, and water-soluble compound fertilizers. In 2024, the nitrogen fertilizer utilization rate reached 43%, an increase of 2.8 percentage points compared to 2020. These include the 6.5 MPa 3,500-ton semi-waste heat boiler pulverized coal gasification technology, the fully waste heat boiler pulverized coal pressurized gasification technology, the low-temperature methanol washing technology utilizing cascade refrigeration technology, as well as the third-generation high-efficiency urea synthesis technology featuring low energy consumption. Among them, the 6.5 MPa, 3,500-ton class semi-regenerative powder coal gasification technology developed by the aerospace engineering company enables efficient gasification with a large amount of coal input, resulting in a 20% reduction in total investment and a 5% reduction in energy consumption ; The low-temperature methanol washing technology based on cascade refrigeration technology has been applied in the super-large modern coal chemical project of Shandong Ruixing Group Co., Ltd., helping to significantly reduce energy consumption in modern coal chemical production. The application of various innovative technologies has led to new progress in making the nitrogen fertilizer industry greener and lower in carbon emissions. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of ammonia produced in the nitrogen fertilizer industry was 1,237 kilograms of standard coal, representing a 4% decrease. Diversified growth in downstream demand: During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, both industrial and agricultural consumption of nitrogen fertilizers showed an upward trend. The growth rates of consumption in both sectors exceeded those recorded during the previous five-year period. Statistical data shows that in 2024, the apparent consumption of nitrogen fertilizers reached 38.82 million tons, with an average annual growth rate of 4.2% ; Agricultural consumption amounted to 27.16 million tons, with an average annual growth rate of 3.8% ; Industrial consumption amounted to 11.66 million tons, with an average annual growth rate of 5.3%. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, consumption in the nitrogen fertilizer industry continued to grow in a diversified manner. Consumption of synthetic ammonia and urea saw notable increases in various sectors, including caprolactam, wood-based panels, melamine, flue gas denitrification in boilers, and automotive urea. In 2024, China’s industrial consumption of ammonia and urea reached 16.83 million tons and 21.78 million tons respectively, accounting for 24% and 33% of the total consumption. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, while actively ensuring supply and contributing to food security, the nitrogen fertilizer industry made significant progress compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period in terms of raw material and product structure adjustment, technological innovation, and green and low-carbon development.
