On February 12, Ganfeng Lithium issued a statement stating that, in accordance with the company’s \"Mariana Plan,\" its first lithium production facility, built in the General Güemes industrial park in Salta province in northwestern Argentina, has begun operations. The total investment in this facility amounts to $790 million, and it has an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of lithium chloride. In addition, the company has also established a solar park at the Llullaillaco salt lake, investing $190 million. Miner Minister Lucero said at the official commissioning ceremony, “The Mariana project will not only generate significant foreign exchange earnings for Argentina, but it will also create numerous jobs and improve the quality of life for hundreds of residents, contributing to the strengthening of the local economy.” On the same day, Argentine President Milei met at the presidential palace with Wang Xiaoshen, president of Ganfeng Lithium, and Luo Xiaofeng, the company’s head for South America. During the meeting, Milei emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between the two sides in order to make the most of Argentina’s abundant lithium resources for the transition to clean energy. In addition, Wang and Luo met separately with Argentine Economy Minister Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Francos, with Ganfeng’s partner in Argentina, Argentino Lithium, also participating in the discussions.
