The 10-billion-yuan superconducting silicon crystal project in Ningxia is advancing at pace 2025-08-01 On July 30, a special reporting team from the autonomous region’s initiative to promote stable growth in investment and consumption visited the project site located in the Zhongguancun Innovation Park industrial zone in Xixia District, Yinchuan. There, they saw that the project aimed at manufacturing superconducting and ultra-high-temperature superconducting silicon single crystal growth equipment as well as producing high-quality silicon crystals, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, is progressing rapidly. As a benchmark project for the world’s first device technology roadmap, the implementation of this project in Ningxia represents a well-targeted investment decision. It is reported that the project addresses the challenges related to the localization of key materials in the photovoltaic and semiconductor industries, and establishes a complete industrial chain through a three-phase, progressive approach. With an initial investment of 3 billion yuan, construction began in March this year. Covering an area of 220 mu, the facility will include equipment manufacturing workshops, crystal production workshops, and other supporting facilities, with a total construction area of about 90,000 square meters. Once in operation, it will be able to produce 40,000 tons of high-quality monocrystalline silicon per year, as well as 600 units of high-temperature superconducting photovoltaic-grade monocrystalline silicon growth equipment. The annual sales revenue is expected to reach 3.5 billion yuan, with profits and taxes amounting to 350 million yuan; it will also create around 1,000 jobs. In the second phase (2027–2028), 3 billion yuan will be invested in the semiconductor sector, with plans to produce 200 semiconductor-grade devices and 10,000 tons of semiconductor-grade silicon crystals per year ； In Phase 3 (2029–2030), an additional 4 billion yuan will be invested to expand operations into the advanced back-end processing stages for semiconductor-grade silicon wafers. These three phases of construction projects build upon one another in a sequential and interconnected manner. Once all are completed, they are expected to generate annual sales revenue of 10.5 billion yuan and profits and taxes of 1.05 billion yuan, while creating around 3,000 jobs. They will serve as a driving force for sustaining economic growth and inject new momentum into the region’s industries in new materials and high-end equipment manufacturing. As of the end of June, the project has completed preliminary tasks such as land bidding and site grading; it is currently advancing simultaneously key procedures such as the feasibility study for high-efficiency and high-tech applications as well as environmental impact assessments, along with the construction of infrastructure, to ensure progress in accordance with the plan.
