I’m seeking help from colleagues in the chemical industry. A notice has been issued by the chemical park requiring closed-system unloading. The storage tanks in question are atmospheric pressure raw material tanks, and the vapor line connecting these tanks to the trucks is 4 inches in diameter. However, the vapor line connectors on the tank lids of our trucks are 2 inches in diameter. Previously, we used 2-inch to 4-inch adapters to connect the two vapor lines, but now the client says this approach is not acceptable; instead, a 4-inch hole must be made in the tank lid, with a 4-inch flange connection welded in place. But the transport fleet disagreed, saying such a change was unreasonable and would affect the annual inspection! Currently, if the customer refuses to allow delivery unless the tank truck’s gas line is modified, the transportation fleet also insists on not making any changes, resulting in a deadlock. I would like to ask: 1. Is it reasonable to make holes in the tank lid of a tank truck to modify the vapor line? 2. Do any of you have any other suggestions to solve this problem? Why do you want to make changes? First of all, is it reasonable given the customer’s request? A 2-inch pipe should be sufficient; it’s okay if the unloading is a bit slower. Too fast is also unsafe
It can be considered to increase the pressure in the gas phase pipe slightly in order to address the issue of pipe diameter
How fast needs to be the unloading? Is a 2-inch gas pipe not enough?
If a change is necessary, the equipment change procedure can be followed
Closed-unloading? How is unloading done in a sealed environment? Do you introduce nitrogen during unloading?
