Zhenhai Refining & Chemical completed an electricity system anti-flicker test on its own for the first time. On December 18, it successfully carried out China Petrochemical’s first such test, enhancing the reliability of the electricity systems in refining enterprises and providing a practical example for reducing unplanned shutdowns caused by electrical issues. Voltage sags refer to sudden and significant drops in voltage as well as short-term power outages that occur in the electrical grid due to severe weather conditions such as typhoons, heavy rains, or ice storms, or as a result of equipment failures or operational errors. In daily life, power surges can cause issues such as flickering lights and computer reboots, and may even damage household appliances. In the production of refining and chemical enterprises, power fluctuations are one of the main causes of unplanned shutdowns, and they represent a long-standing technical challenge in this industry. To address this challenge, since the beginning of this year, the Electrical Core Technology Innovation Studio at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical has carried out multiple rounds of technical research and development efforts. By combining the characteristics of relay protection with the principles of equipment operation, they innovatively upgraded the traditional residual voltage switching method to a fast switching mode, successfully reducing the power supply switching time from 1 second to 0.1 second. At the same time, depending on the production process conditions, a timed restart function has been implemented for the motor. This anti-surge test was conducted on the newly installed equipment at the Zhenhai Base Phase II. During the test, none of the surges caused the equipment to shut down due to interlocks, thereby fully verifying the effectiveness of the anti-surge technology. This test also accurately obtained data on transient stability and motor restart characteristics under the impact of high current surges caused by grid faults, providing reference data for the stable analysis and parameter calculation of power systems.
