The explanatory note to clause 5.2.22 of GB50160-2018, \"Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises\", states that \"as the scale of facilities increases, the total volume of storage tanks for liquefied hydrocarbons located at the edge of such facilities has been increased from 300 m3 to 500 m3, while the volume of tanks for flammable liquids has been increased from 3000 m3 to 5000 m3.\" Given that there are already restrictions on the total volume of the plant’s tank farm, the dedicated pumps for this tank farm only need to be installed outside the fire dike, and the fire separation distance required between them and the plant’s tanks need not comply with the provisions of clause 5.3.5. I would like to ask the experts: for the dedicated pumps used in the tank farm of liquefied hydrocarbon plants with a capacity of less than 500 m3, do they only need to be installed outside the fire dike, for example, 1.5 meters away from it? Are there no other requirements regarding the distance between these pumps and the tanks? Is this understanding correct?
The understanding is correct, but this only applies to one can per pump; it won’t work if there are multiple pumps.
Thank you for your advice. I have another question: does \"one tank, one pump\" mean that each tank is equipped with its own dedicated pump? If the storage tank complex consists of four liquefied hydrocarbon tanks, each with a capacity of 99 cubic meters, then each tank can have its own dedicated pump – in other words, the four storage tanks can be paired one-to-one with their respective pumps, without any need for sharing pumps. In that case, the four pumps would only need to be installed outside the fire dike, with no further requirements regarding the distance between them and the storage tanks. Is it correct to understand it this way, as one canister and one pump?
