Sealing problems with pumps: We are involved in the smelting of lead and zinc, and pumps are common equipment in this industry. However, sealing the pumps used for transporting slurry and solutions proves to be a challenge. Initially, we used ceramic and plastic pumps, whose seals were typically mechanical seals; after half a year, these seals needed to be replaced frequently. Later, we opted for alloy pumps equipped with mechanical seals and water cooling. After two years, the leakage rate increased. I tried using submersible pumps to address the leakage issue, but it seems that not many submersible pumps can handle slurry, and their maximum head is only 30 meters. Have you used any similar solutions?

The main cause of the problem is likely the impurities in the material being transported. If the concentration is very high, a \"slurry pump\" can be considered. For sealing, could clean water be considered as a sealing agent? For reference.
The lifespan of a regular mechanical seal is only 3-6 months; those that are flushed with water can last up to 2 years, which is already quite good for a mechanical seal.
Continuing with a mechanical seal for the alloy pump plus water cooling is already very good. Submersible pumps are not recommended, especially for deeper pools, as maintenance will be a hassle later on. . .
If a submersible pump is used, mother-and-child tanks can be employed to address the issue of pool depth!
The national standard for the service life of mechanical seals is 8,400 hours (1 year); it’s considered acceptable if they can last for 2 years. Your operating conditions aren’t very good either. I wonder what your expected lifespan is?
Generally, for slurry with a high viscosity like yours, piston pumps are more efficient than centrifugal pumps. However, the service life of packing seals is not long, usually only 6,000 to 8,000 hours. The mechanical seal you chose earlier, which can last for 2 years, is already quite good
