[Haichuan Chemical Salary News] Processing of exhaust gas generated by the butadiene extraction unit using the acetonitrile method for the first time

Recently, the new 18,000 tons per year butadiene off-gas recovery unit at Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. was brought online in its entirety, producing qualified products; this marks the successful commissioning of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical’s first fine chemical production facility on the first attempt. This facility is the first in China to use the acetonitrile method to process the exhaust gases generated by the butadiene extraction unit, converting the acetylene present in these gases into high-value products such as cumulene-1, a type of tetrahydrocarbon. Originally, acetylene was sold as a liquefied fuel gas, but the price of the processed product is much higher than that of ordinary liquefied gas. The commissioning of this facility is also an important step in Zhenhai Refining & Chemical’s expansion into downstream fine chemical industries. The new 18,000 tons per year butadiene off-gas recovery unit was completed on August 26. The project team overcame challenges such as a limited workforce, tight deadlines, high temperatures, and heavy workload, and proceeded steadily with preparations including catalyst loading, device airtightness testing, catalyst activation, and the transportation of safety-related liquids, in strict accordance with the commissioning plan; operations began on September 3 with the introduction of raw materials.
