At present, the construction of the pyrolysis furnace in our company is complete, and the work on the other piping systems is underway. A waste heat boiler will be installed subsequently, and we plan to carry out furnace drying simultaneously. What conditions need to be met before this can happen? Since the piping for the pyrolysis furnace and the waste heat boiler has not yet been installed, should all the process pipelines be completed first, or can the work on the other piping systems be carried out while the furnace is being dried? Also, after the furnace drying is complete, does the temperature need to be reduced, or can it be maintained at that level straight away for production purposes? The furnace must be dried after its construction is complete and after a certain period of curing; the duration of this curing period is determined according to the parameters specified by the supplier, with 15 days being the standard time. It is possible to carry out furnace drying and boiling operations before the pipeline system is completed, but the following points should be taken into account: 1. There must be a complete set of plans for furnace drying and boiling; such plans can be obtained by contacting furnace manufacturers and boiler manufacturers. 2. The furnace lining material must be fully installed and cured, all manholes must be sealed, and all instrument connection points must be installed. 3. The fuel supply lines for furnace heating must be in place; temporary facilities such as oil storage tanks/gas storage tanks or truck unloading points should be available for storing fuel on-site. 4. The igniters and fans must be installed, and the exhaust systems for furnace heating must also be in place. 5. Furnace heating can proceed even if the pipeline system is not yet complete, but the pipelines related to furnace heating (such as water supply/drainage pipes) must be completed and subjected to pressure testing. 6. If necessary, the furnace construction party and the boiler supplier can be requested to send personnel to provide technical services for furnace drying and testing.
Generally, heating and boiling the furnace can be carried out simultaneously to save fuel. The heating process should follow the temperature rise curve provided by the furnace lining supplier or the furnace construction party. Once the heating is complete, the furnace is cooled down; boiling begins when the temperature drops to 150–104°C (in accordance with the boiler manufacturer’s boiling procedure). It can be started by directly increasing the temperature after furnace heating, and is suitable for emergency repair projects where time is tight; since other systems are still in operation, it can be activated right away. For equipment that has been built for the first time, after the furnace is dried, its temperature should be reduced to room temperature so that personnel can enter to check the effectiveness of the drying process as well as to determine whether there are any cracks or damages in the furnace lining.
