Our company has installed a new plate tower with a diameter of 2 meters. We are currently using steam in this tower, and the following issues have been observed: 1. During operation with steam, it was found that the temperature of the tower decreases gradually from the bottom to the top. Normally, since it’s a gas phase, the temperature should remain around 100°C; yet at the top of the tower, it drops to 80°C℃; 2. The top of the tower was equipped with a 1-meter-long thermometer (the previous one was only 0.4 meters long and extended 15 cm into the tower wall), and the temperature rose from 80 to 98.8℃ ; 3. The 0.4-meter thermometer taken out was found to be qualified after calibration ; This raises the question: could the temperature of the tower be different at the same height? Also, since it is a top-temperature thermometer that is being removed, there is no issue of liquid flowing down from it ; The evaporation rate of water is approximately 4 tons per hour ; I need expert advice!
During the steaming process, steam condenses into water and flows down from the top of the tower; your assumption does not take into account the natural cooling of the equipment. And how long are your thermometer sleeves exactly? If it’s replaced with one-meter-long ones, it should be able to pierce through, right?
It is caused by the thermometer being inserted too shallowly.
The thermometer port has no sleeve, only a short circuit.
This morning I conducted an experiment: during the steaming process, I removed the flange where the thermometer was attached and pulled the thermometer out by about 1 cm. At that point, the temperature started to drop, falling from 90°C to 78°C. However, the mercury thermometer showed 100°C when placed at the flange opening. How can this be explained?
Be careful of leaks without a sleeve. The accuracy of this bimetallic thermometer used in factories cannot be compared to that of a mercury thermometer; the original poster is being too serious.
When the answer was revealed, it turned out that all of these temperature transmitters were inaccurate. The worst part was that, unfortunately, we had to install these inaccurate thermometers from the bottom of the tower to the top, in order of their degree of inaccuracy – what a pity! I just replaced it with a thermometer from another manufacturer that has the same length, and that solved the problem ; Thank you all for your answers! ! !
The temperature/probe + transmitter should be calibrated before installation, and the results must be documented in writing. The person in charge missed this step – was it a lapse in the work process? Fortunately, the problem has been solved.
