Water resource assessment for the Zhundong coal-to-gas project has commenced

On July 2, the Yellow River Water Resources Commission under the Ministry of Water Resources officially accepted the applications for the Zhundong coal-to-gas project and the coal mine projects, marking another significant step forward in the water resources assessment process for these construction projects in Zhundong. Meanwhile, Longyu Energy’s 4 billion cubic meter coal-to-natural gas project, as well as the first phase of Project No. 1 at the Hongshaquan open-pit coal mine owned by Xinjiang Shenhua Mining Co., Ltd., with a production capacity of 10.0 Mt/year, have received notices from the Yellow River Water Resources Commission confirming that their applications for administrative approval have been accepted.
The preparatory work for the Xinjiang Longyu project is likely to be more thorough compared to previous projects; it seems that work on it has been going on for over four years now!
The key question is: has the review been approved? They say it’s a big step forward, but what’s the use if it can’t get through?
At least at this stage, it’s not that easy to obtain approval documents for these coal chemical projects. As the two most important documents, the water resource assessment and environmental impact assessment are certainly not going to be approved easily!
