Can a non-intrinsic safety cable be used as a substitute? How to test an intrinsically safe circuit? Does a circuit qualify as an intrinsically safe circuit as long as all components in it are intrinsically safe devices, or is it necessary to test the entire circuit as well? Cables are divided into intrinsically safe cables and non-intrinsically safe cables. The energy storage parameters per unit length of intrinsically safe cables are limited.
It is not allowed by the regulations. But in theory it is possible, because intrinsically safe circuits theoretically limit the energy stored in the circuit. As long as the parameters of all the devices and cables in this circuit are collected and circuit calculations are performed to keep it within safe limits. In other words, using intrinsically safe cables is also to facilitate project implementation. Theoretically, even when intrinsically safe cables are used, a calculation of the intrinsically safe circuit is still required; it’s just that in most cases the cable length is not long enough to require such a calculation.
Intrinsic safety cables can certainly replace non-intrinsic safety cables, but the reverse is not possible. The problem is that intrinsically safe cables are more expensive than non-intrinsically safe ones, so it’s not cost-effective to use them as a substitute. Intrinsic safety cables are a component of an intrinsic safety system. Additionally, there is no such thing as an explosion-proof or non-explosion-proof cable; apart from intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe types, the differences lie in factors such as flame retardancy, fire resistance, and whether a shielding layer is present.
I originally wanted to give the poster a reminder after seeing the title. When I went in, the content was the opposite of what the title said.
