Seeking advice for the workplace – I have a degree in engineering; I haven’t been involved in design work for seven years. Is it still possible for me to get into this field?

I would appreciate it if some experts could give me some advice on which direction I should take if I switch to design now

The design industry is already saturated; there’s no work available for those in this field. Many companies are laying off employees, and it seems that a number of designers will be eliminated from the industry. Do you still want to enter it? . .
What does a process engineering major mean? A factory process engineer?

The thing is, my previous work experience has nothing to do with design at all. Setting aside the overall health of the design industry for now, I wonder whether my background makes me suitable for entering this field
