The propylene oxide industry abroad is highly concentrated; companies such as Dow Chemical in the United States, Lyondell, and BASF in Germany are the major producers in the world, controlling the majority of the global propylene oxide market. Using the HPPO process, there is a 300,000-ton/year plant owned by BASF in Antwerp, Belgium, as well as a 390,000-ton/year propylene oxide production plant owned by Dow Chemical in Thailand; both of these plants utilize technology developed through a partnership between Dow and BASF. SKC has a 100,000-ton/year PO plant in Ulsan, South Korea, which employs patented technology from Evonik Industries and Wood.
