Since the 6.5MPa gasification furnace has been in operation for over a year, there has been a problem of high pressure at the slag outlet. The slag outlet bricks need to be replaced after each operating cycle (60–70 days), and the brick support plates also get damaged. What is the cause of this?
The high operating temperature, or improper adjustment of the oxygen level at the center, is likely to be the cause. It is recommended to conduct a thorough analysis of the reasons through gas analysis and slag samples. Based on your description, there may be other factors as well, so a careful analysis is necessary.
The slag port pressure is low, which means there is less slag accumulated at the slag port; in other words, the furnace temperature is high or the flame is long. The fact that, as described by the poster, the bricks at the conical-bottom slag port need to be replaced after just one cycle of operation indicates severe wear, a characteristic associated with a flame of long length. So as mentioned above, the problem lies with the central oxygen supply (it’s not necessarily due to improper adjustment; it could also be an inherent issue in the design, such as the presence of orifice plates in the outer oxygen supply system with pores that are too small). The high flow rate and velocity of the central oxygen cause the flame in the reaction zone to move downward, closer to the slag outlet, resulting in severe wear on that outlet. Furthermore, it is estimated that the owner’s installation not only suffers from a short lifespan of the slag outlet bricks, but also has issues with the ash-to-slag ratio being out of balance, as well as problems related to the water system, such as an excessive amount of water in it
First, it is necessary to consider whether the atomization angle of the burner is too small; this issue may be caused by the burner itself or by an improper adjustment of the central oxygen supply. For Texaco burners, the optimal atomization angle is around 60 degrees, and increasing the central oxygen supply appropriately can expand this atomization angle. Next, it is necessary to consider whether the size of the slag outlet is too small. If the slag outlet of the gasification furnace is designed to be too large, the residence time of coal powder in the furnace is shortened, which is not conducive to the reaction. If it is designed to be too small, slag accumulation on the cone-shaped bottom bricks will occur, and the service life of these bricks is affected under conditions of high load in the furnace or when the ash content of the coal is too high. The final point is whether there is an issue of excessively large expansion joints in the cones used in brick construction; if these expansion joints are too large, the service life of the bricks at the slag outlet will be significantly affected due to the erosion caused by high-temperature liquid slag.
