I examined the piping materials for a certain project; from utility systems to process media, pipes, fittings, and valves with DN15–40 sizes are all welded together, regardless of their thickness. I told them that some could be socket-welded, and the reply was that welding would only be done on-site; it’s frustrating. Is socket welding more difficult than butt welding?
For butt welding, there is no need to leave a straight pipe section; for socket welding, a sufficient straight pipe section must be left
Plug welding doesn’t require beveling; moreover, it prevents misalignment and burn-through at small diameters. It’s actually simpler than butt welding
