Pressure swing adsorption is commonly used in the decarburization of synthetic ammonia, and water ring vacuum pumps are generally selected for vacuum creation. With increasingly strict environmental regulations in recent years, the wastewater from vacuum pumps must also be sent to the urban sewage treatment plants through the pipeline system. The cost for treating 1 ton of water is currently close to 2 yuan, which is indeed a significant expense. Could we consider using other working fluids in a recycled manner as an alternative to discharging water? We may need to consider several issues: 1. Since the gas medium contains substances such as CO2, H2S, H2, and CO, if water is reused, its pH level could be a problem – it might become very low, thereby causing corrosion to the vacuum pump ; 2. The medium selected must not react with the process gas, and it should have stable chemical and physical properties as well as low volatility. Please, experts, give me some advice. Thank you!

Is it allowed to use a weak alkaline solution as the working fluid? It is made into a closed-loop system; through pH monitoring, when the acidity level is high, an alkaline solution is added to the working fluid to maintain the pH at 8–9. Please consider: 1) Is it allowed in the process? 2) A small amount of wastewater will also be generated; how should it be treated?
A dry pump can be considered, as it does not generate wastewater
Alkaline solutions were also considered; firstly, the cost of adding alkali is unknown, and secondly, removing the salts produced is a hassle.
Dry pumps are indeed a one-time solution, but the initial investment is quite high :'(
In pressure swing adsorption, the volume of gas handled is very large, in the tens of thousands of cubic meters, and a relatively high pressure of 100–200 mbar is required; therefore, a dry pump might not be the best choice

I use production water here; the return water is directly recycled as circulating make-up water, and no abnormalities have been observed in the pH level.
