Can containers made of Q235B be welded using ER50-6 TIG welding wire? Can J507 be used for manual welding? Could the strength of the weld be much higher than that of the steel plate?
Manual welding uses J426 or J427, which are equivalent to E4316 or E4315; gas shielded welding uses ER49-1
The strength difference between the base material of the equipment and the welds is too large; there is a discontinuity in the material strength (in other words, a mixture of strong and weak materials), which is not conducive to the safe use of the equipment. From a safety perspective, it is best for the strengths to be consistent. If welding evaluations require certain actions to be taken, those actions should be carried out. After all, Q235 is such a commonly used material.
ER50-6 is an argon arc welding wire for carbon steel, featuring excellent plasticity, toughness, and crack resistance, particularly high low-temperature impact toughness. Purpose: Used for manual TIG welding as a root pass in pipes at various locations, as well as for arc welding, yielding satisfactory welded joints. Weldable carbon steel and certain low-alloy steels. J507 is a low-hydrogen sodium-type electrode; it is an alkaline electrode that can be used to weld typical structural steels such as Q235, Q245R, and Q345R. Its tensile strength is much higher than that of the ordinary E4315 electrode, which is why it is generally used for welding structural steel components that are subject to high stresses or dynamic loads. The diameter of J507 electrodes ranges from 2.5 mm to 6.0 mm, allowing for welding in all positions; a DC welder should be used for welding with the polarity set to reverse. Of course, if only an AC welder is available in the field, it can still be used, but the current level needs to be set higher. The weld shape after welding with J507 is less attractive compared to that achieved with acidic electrodes; acidic electrodes can be used when covering steel structures.
