National safety inspection: 926 people held criminally liable for safety violations

Since the nationwide safety inspection campaign began in late August, 926 people have been held criminally accountable for safety violations; 1.566 million illegal acts have been prosecuted, 10,269 enterprises were ordered to suspend operations for rectification, 2,550 enterprises were shut down, and 5,798 licenses and permits were temporarily seized or revoked in accordance with the law. According to the **General Administration of Work Safety**, since a major safety inspection focusing on potential hazards was carried out in late August, a total of 138,000 inspection and enforcement teams have been deployed across the country. These teams inspected 861,000 enterprises, identified 1.099 million potential hazards, with a correction rate of 92%. Among these, there were 4,707 serious hazards, for which the correction rate was 78.9%. 1.566 million illegal acts were cracked down on; 10,269 enterprises were ordered to suspend operations for rectification; 2,550 enterprises were closed down; 5,798 licenses and permits were temporarily seized or revoked in accordance with the law; and 926 persons were handed over to judicial authorities for criminal prosecution. From late August to early September, the State Council Safety Committee organized 16 comprehensive inspection teams led by ministry-level officials to conduct thorough oversight of 32 provincial-level units across the country. A total of 249 cities and counties as well as over 630 enterprises were inspected, and more than 2,000 potential problems were identified and addressed through corrective actions. The Office of the State Council’s Safety Committee organized 7 inspection teams to conduct continuous covert inspections in key areas and industries; 46 senior officials from provincial Party committees went to the field to oversee these inspections. All regions and departments have focused on hazardous materials as well as flammable and explosive substances, and in accordance with the requirements of the \"eight mandatory inspections,\" they have carried out comprehensive inspections and systematic rectifications of relevant enterprises. Through the joint efforts of various regions and departments, the national safety inspection has achieved initial results; the overall situation regarding work safety across the country has improved. Since September, the number of major accidents and the number of deaths resulting from such accidents have decreased by 40.3% and 27.9% respectively on a year-on-year basis, and the trend of frequent accidents has been effectively curbed.
