There is a project in Xinjiang where the client requires heat tracing for many of the circulating water pipes. However, I believe that since the circulating water is in motion, insulation alone is sufficient. What are everyone’s opinions?
I haven’t seen any regulations specifying at what low temperature heat tracing is required for circulating water.
It must be done; the possibility of maintenance shutdowns needs to be taken into account. Slow flow rates can also lead to freezing – I’ve encountered this situation before
The circulating water is in motion. We have installed electric heating here.
When the flow rate is low during parking, it is advisable to provide heat tracing for the smaller-diameter pipes; heat tracing is not necessary for the main pipes.
The circulating water pipes for which heating is added by the owner are likely to be pipes that operate intermittently or at a slow flow rate, and have a small diameter. I have seen circulating water main pipes in the Heilongjiang region that lack heating elements and insulation.

It’s really hard to say something about Xinjiang. Electric heating is of course the best option, but it does increase costs. Under normal circumstances, insulation is sufficient; if maintenance is required, the water in the pipes should also be drained. In our previous projects in Xinjiang, electric heat tracing was not used; insulation was generally applied instead.
Just ensure the circuit is in order; however, the circulating water in Xinjiang freezes quite easily. Things like the cooling water for samplers are quite troublesome!
