If the lubricating oil temperature is high, a fan is generally used to exhaust the oil fumes. Negative pressure can also be used, but it is not an absolute necessity

Functions of the exhaust fan in the oil tank: 1. It removes the oil vapor from the lubricating oil, preventing the spread of oil fumes; it is particularly suitable for explosion-proof areas. Bearing housings equipped with an exhaust fan generally do not have breather valves. 2. It maintains a slight negative pressure in the oil tank, which facilitates the return of oil. 3. It prevents the lubricating oil from coming into contact with air and oxidizing. In the past, when there was no exhaust fan, nitrogen was used, with a pressure of around 2 KPa. 4. It can maximize the removal of the water vapor component from oil and gas. Summary: Personally, I think it is mainly due to safety and environmental protection considerations; everything else is secondary. Some will also add flame arresters.
