What is the difference between long-cinder coal and short-cinder coal used as gasification feedstock?

As the title suggests, how are long-residue coal and short-residue coal, which are used as feedstocks for gasification, defined? What is the significance of each?
This seems to have nothing to do with coal; it is likely related to the softening temperature of the coal and the control of the furnace temperature. Generally, when the furnace temperature is 200 to 400 degrees higher than the coal’s softening temperature, long slag is formed, while when it is 100 to 200 degrees higher, short slag is produced.
I’ve never heard of this name; is there a precise definition?
What are the differences in operating temperatures for fixed-bed gasification between coal with long ash and coal with short ash?
