Recently, I noticed in the PFD diagrams that in the catalytic reforming pretreatment process, the gas separated by the hydrogenation product separation tank is sent to the liquid separation tank at the inlet of the hydrogenation recycle compressor. What is the function of this liquid separation tank? Since the diagram shows that there is an normal amount at the bottom of this separation tank, why not proceed with circulation directly?
Prevent hydrogen carrying liquid from entering the compressor and damaging it
The main purpose is to drain the liquid. 1. In a fault condition, the liquid level in the pre-hydrogenation product separation tank is very high; there is insufficient space for gas-liquid separation and the residence time is inadequate. As a result, the recycled hydrogen carries a large amount of gasoline mist, which can cause liquid to enter the compressor inlet pipeline. 2. In a fault condition, the temperature of the pre-hydrogenation product separation tank becomes very high; for example, if the air cooling fan stops operating, gas-liquid separation is not thorough. 3. Under normal conditions, the circulating hydrogen will contain some gasoline mist to a certain extent, but only in small amounts; it is sufficient to drain it when there is a liquid level present. The pre-hydrogenation circulator here is a reciprocating machine, and there is a pre-hydrogenation circulation hydrogen separation tank at the inlet; it needs to be cleaned every two or three days. By the way, it’s fine for a reciprocating machine to have a little liquid, but not too much.
