Our company wishes to modify the fire protection pipelines. The current ones are above ground and insulated; in winter they were left empty, but now we want them to remain under pressure at all times. What solutions exist for this, with requirements for cost-effectiveness and simplicity?
What type of company is yours? Hanging fire protection pipelines? It is generally designed to be buried underground. If that’s the case, it is recommended to use heat tracing, namely water-based heat tracing. Fire-fighting equipment must be kept in good condition and ready for use.
You can consider having the fire-fighting water exchange heat with materials at normal temperature before being recycled, and also take into account the aspect of air conditioning for heating. I’m not sure if it’s feasible
How is water returned in the fire protection system? We maintain pressure by keeping the pressure pump running. Is there any design diagram for the water return process, or at least an outline of how it works?
Oh right, I forgot about maintaining the pressure. Keep it insulated; the possibility of freezing due to continuous operation is low, unless the quality of the pipes is poor and they crack from freezing. Consider the winter temperatures in your area; places in general are not that cold
It’s difficult to make it work on the ground! Isn’t heat tracing a waste of energy, after all, the diameters of fire protection water pipes are quite large?
1. Add a heat tracing system (such as electric heat tracing, hot water heat tracing, etc.); 2. Change to buried pipelines.
If it must be operated under pressure, then install electric heat tracing, which is used only during the winter months
