The success of one’s career is one’s own ideal, while the success of one’s apprentices is what one strives for. What a pure person – not even a blade of grass on Mount Kunlun, nor a pine tree on the summit of Mount Tai. Just an ordinary green creature. He and his companions formed an oasis for us to roam across. What wonderful lives they have – they are our pride. Story of Gratitude 001: The Unforgettable Shark Meat – I had just started working and was a green, inexperienced young man. People say you need to maintain a good relationship with your master, otherwise he will hold back! I just want to bring some local specialties from my hometown for the master. I didn’t know what to buy either; when I saw shark meat, I thought this master must have never eaten it before! Then I bought a few bags and brought them here from afar. But when I went to my master’s house, I said, “This is shark meat; please give it a try!” The master opened it and took a bite – why is it so fishy! I took a bite too; it was really fishy. I said that maybe that’s just what shark meat tastes like; actually, I’ve never eaten it myself. Then the master picked up the packaging bag and took a close look at it, before smiling after a while. How to eat—it needs to be steamed for 10 minutes! I scratched my head and giggled! Not long ago, I asked my master if he still remembered shark meat! The master said, “Bring 2 more bags!”
Master? I haven’t encountered a true mentor; it’s been mutual assistance among colleagues, with the difference lying in the timing at which they started working, as well as in the fact that their positions are similar but their tasks differ. There were loans, 100 each time; they were repaid on schedule over a decade ago. The last loan was for 500, and that amount was not repaid ； Sometimes, when adjusting the flange, they’d ask you to get a wrench or something. By the time you came back, it was already installed ； Some people pretend to know things they don’t, try to trick others into working overtime, and earn extra money from the company for that. . .
Why do you only encounter the dark side? Let’s talk about something positive! Gratitude Story 003: Borrow 20,000 from Me. That year, we were working at Wai Shi*, and it had been exactly one year since we started working, which meant we were eligible to get a mortgage loan to buy a house. I was interested in a house in a certain residential complex at that time and paid 50,000 yuan as a deposit; I took time off to return to Sichuan, and just then the sales for that property started! Then we took 7 days off on October 1st to come and buy a house. After waiting for 3 days, the sale of this residential complex was scheduled to start on the 8th, and our vacation was approaching. We had intended to write a power of attorney so that someone else could help with the purchase. But for something this important, it’s better to talk in person! Then, we looked at other properties, and there happened to be two similar floor plans, which were really good. My colleagues and I all decided to buy it, but I don’t have enough money on hand; I’m short by 20,000. Then, I called my master. At that time, he was also on leave at home; he had purchased a unit in Phase 1 of the same residential complex. The master asked, “How much is missing?” I said, twenty thousand! Then the master came and helped me advance 20,000! I paid the down payment for the house. Now, I live about a hundred meters away from my master. It’s fine; I often drop by! During holidays and festivals, we often have dinners together!
People inherently have good and bad sides; positive energy and darkness also vary from person to person. You are true masters in the truest sense. This is how I understand it; I’m not sure if it’s correct: the work you’ll have to do is to follow in the footsteps he has taken, to replicate his tasks at the factory, his habits, his methods of solving problems, etc. Under normal circumstances, there is no competition involved.
The master retired this year; it seems that he was the one who introduced me to my current employer. He is an expert in this field, and his guidance at work was invaluable. Now that he has retired, I feel very sad to leave him behind. When he was around, we felt a great sense of security as he always took care of us.

Right after graduating, I met someone who couldn’t really be called a mentor; it was more of a relationship between teacher and friend. He’s a great guy – we often drank together and had long conversations, haha
The master has retired, but his teachings continue every day, because now I too am a master to others!
Gratitude Story 004: Young Master and Senior Apprentice. We are a newly established facility, and many of the workers are former apprentices from older companies! I went to a new company and became a senior mentor to newly graduated college students! Master Li, who works in the cracking department, was born in 1985 and has only been working for 3 years; yet his two apprentices were born in 1986 and 1983 respectively. It’s truly the young master and the senior disciple! When I come across something I don’t understand, I have to ask the master’s master for help! There was someone who came from the old factory with him; he was a colleague of his master, and his master’s junior brother. So these two top apprentices already had uncles as mentors as soon as they joined the factory!
