I’m a beginner. When I saw the instructions for manufacturing the Type B ear-type supports for the evaporator, I noticed that the drawings provided by the designers did not include any vents in the gusset plates. Is it okay to proceed in this way?
The small holes in the backing plate are there to allow gas to escape during welding, ensuring better welding quality; they need to be created； If you really don’t want to make holes, then don’t weld it completely (this method is not recommended).
The backing plate should generally have ventilation holes, or a gap of about 20 mm should be left unwelded at its bottom to allow air to escape at high temperatures. For equipment operating at higher temperatures, this vent hole is even more important; otherwise, a sealed space is formed between the gasket and the vessel wall, resulting in significant local stress due to temperature differences.
