In the edible oil storage tank area, do the valves used for shutdown need to be food-grade valves? Are there any relevant standard documents? What are the special requirements for food-grade valves? What are the requirements regarding stainless steel grades and surface roughness? Thank you!
For valves used in edible oil applications, material 304 or 316 will suffice. It is necessary to polish the inner surface of the valves, as there are requirements regarding cleanliness and roughness levels. Edible oils can be divided into directly edible oils and indirectly edible oils. Direct-use oils include salad oil, olive oil, etc. The pipe materials should be thin-walled stainless steel sanitary pipes (such as those meeting 3A standards), while the valves should be connected using food-grade clamps or welded butterfly valves. For non-direct edible oils such as soybean oil and peanut oil, ordinary 304 stainless steel pipes, along with ordinary stainless steel ball valves or butterfly valves, are sufficient.
For cooking oil, 304 material is sufficient! Butterfly valves and ball valves are commonly used in the food industry! The cleanliness level just needs to meet the QS standards!
