Authors: E Díez, A Rodríguez, JM Gómez, M Olmos. Abstract: All alternative approaches were simulated using the HYSYS 03 software platform in order to identify the most economical option. The economic analysis shows that, although the initial investment for both heat pump-assisted systems is much higher than that for conventional processes, the annual savings (29% for the double heat pump-assisted system and 4% for the single heat pump-assisted system) make it worthwhile to use heat pumps instead of traditional reboiler-condenser columns.
