In the current economic downturn, many companies are operating at reduced capacity or on a part-time basis. The output of equipment that is operating at reduced capacity generally falls short of its designed specifications. This has led to the adoption of frequency conversion upgrades. Although such upgrades allow the production process to be adjusted according to actual demand, thereby saving a significant amount of electricity, they are not the ultimate solution for achieving substantial energy savings. If it is possible to determine the most suitable equipment to replace the existing ones, the energy-saving effects would be even more significant. This leads to this week’s topic: In the context of energy-saving upgrades for equipment, is it feasible to simply replace the motor without changing the entire equipment, such as water pumps? In other words, is it possible to replace high-power motors with ones that suit the current conditions? (Smaller motors also make use of variable frequency drives; for example, if the original capacity was 1000 kilowatts, now only 500 kilowatts are needed, so I use a 600-kilowatt motor to replace the 1000-kilowatt one without changing the water pump.) The topic is quite large. If a large motor is used to drive a small machine, there is no need to replace the motor; by replacing the coupling with a permanent magnet speed control system, the investment is low and results can be seen quickly.
Replacing the motor with a 600KW one also incurs costs, and the base dimensions need to be modified as well; it’s faster to see results by using an inverter without making any changes

It’s not the case of using a large engine to drive a small vehicle; rather, the system requires less power, so the equipment does not need to have such high output levels, meaning it doesn’t require as much power as was designed for. The motors that are replaced are those from devices that are no longer in production, so no investment is needed. As for other components such as steel plates, existing materials can be used, so there is no need to purchase them again
The 600KW motors are found in devices that have been discontinued; it’s a matter of making do with what’s available. No modifications to the foundation are required – simply rearranging a relatively thick steel plate is sufficient. The main concern remains safety
Variable frequency drives have already been used, but since the motors are relatively large, their internal losses are also high. Moreover, for high-voltage motors, the cost of purchasing variable frequency drives is quite substantial. The modifications mentioned above are possible only when suitable motors are available
Changing the situation of using large motors to drive small devices is always a topic related to energy conservation. Replacing the motor or changing its frequency – as long as it yields a good return on investment – is recommended if such changes are possible~~
