Why does opening an oil storage tank give off a hydrogen sulfide smell?

When the sampling port on the top of a light distillate storage tank is opened, a strong hydrogen sulfide odor is present – why is that? I hope the teachers can help solve this.
Hydrogen sulfide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H₂S. Under normal conditions, it is a colorless, flammable acidic gas; at low concentrations it has a foul odor, similar to that of rotten eggs
Organic sulfides in petroleum are reduced to hydrogen sulfide and other low-molecular-weight sulfides during high-temperature processing, especially in the presence of catalysts; they are primarily found in petroleum gas and gasoline fractions. The main reasons for the excessive hydrogen sulfide levels in oil storage tanks are: 1. Hydrogen sulfide has a higher density than air, making it difficult to disperse naturally; it tends to accumulate at the bottom of the storage tank. 2. The oil storage tanks cannot be overhauled and cleaned on schedule, resulting in an increasing accumulation of oil. 3. In a sealed, oxygen-deficient environment, organic debris accumulated at the bottom of oil storage tanks may produce a small amount of hydrogen sulfide gas.
