Experts, currently, the main processes for producing desalinated water are reverse osmosis plus ion exchange. However, ion exchange involves acid and alkali washing, which causes pollution to water supply and drainage systems. May I ask, is it possible to do without ion exchange resin? The demineralized water in our facility is used solely to feed the air coolers; it has no other purposes. Also, what are the specifications for desalinated water? Thank you

If strict desalination is required, ion exchange is a necessary measure. It is feasible to reasonably configure the water purification process based on the water quality requirements of the air-cooling equipment for cooling water. The specifications for demineralized water are determined based on the requirements of the water to be used; there are no specific requirements for the demineralized water itself – it is the water intended for use that requires specified limits on salt content.
I suggest going with an ion exchanger; it’s not costly and easy to operate. Reclaimed water treatment systems also require discharge of wastewater, involve chemical cleaning, and the quality of the water is not as good as that obtained through ion exchange~
After reverse osmosis, it may be possible to skip the mixed-bed treatment; the key factor is the water requirements for the air coolers. If the conductivity is within acceptable limits, then this approach is feasible.
