I’m asking fellow users to share their insights: what is the optimal temperature for drying with 98% sulfuric acid? Does temperature have a significant impact on the drying effect?
Concentrated sulfuric acid has a strong water-absorbing capacity and releases a large amount of heat; therefore, the lower the temperature, the better its absorption effect – provided, of course, that it does not crystallize and turn into a solid.
If the temperature is low, the viscosity of concentrated sulfuric acid increases – will this affect its water absorption? We are currently controlling the temperature at 20 degrees; is there a better temperature control setting?
What is the temperature threshold specified in your operating procedures?
The key is to control the drying temperature of chlorine; it is advisable for the temperature entering the drying tower to be below 15 degrees. If it is too high, acid consumption increases, while if it is too low, costs related to cooling or utility usage rise. As for cooling after acid absorption, it is sufficient to keep the temperature exiting the tower below 30 degrees. As long as the intermediate cooling meets the aforementioned criteria, that’s fine. These are my personal opinions.
The control temperature should be between 12 and 18°C, with 14–15°C being the ideal range
We have reduced the operating temperature from 20 degrees to 18 degrees, and this results in a decrease in moisture content. We haven’t tried it at 15 degrees, as we are concerned that lowering the temperature might affect the water absorption capacity; currently, what’s lacking are theoretical data on this matter
