What size should the safety valve be for the 1.5MPa saturated steam main? Is it better to install a gate valve or a globe valve on the main pipe?
Safety valves and gate valves serve different purposes; a safety valve opens automatically when the pressure reaches a set value to release pressure. Globe valves need to be driven by a manual actuator
Although I don’t understand these things, I think your requirements haven’t been fully stated. For example, pipe diameter, design pressure of the pipeline, steam flow rate, maximum flow rate, and the operating conditions to be taken into account in the calculation of safety valves.
Gate valves are used for the manual valves before and after the safety valve, while globe valves can be used for the bypass valve.
Choose the stop valve and safety valve based on your pressure; I assume for medium-pressure steam, you’ll need a DN150 model
It is recommended to install plunger valves in steam pipelines; if choosing between globe valves and gate valves, the globe valve should be selected. The size of the safety valve should be determined based on the amount of steam required by the equipment downstream.
I don’t know what the diameter of your main pipeline is or what the required discharge volume is; the diameter can be calculated based on pressure and the discharge coefficient
The steam main has a diameter of DN200, with a maximum steam flow rate of 10 tons per hour. The diameter of the safety valve should also be DN200; can it be smaller?
