There has been a strange noise coming from the pump body of a water ring vacuum pump used in conjunction with the steam turbines at our facility. No issues were found during major repairs, and the pump operates fairly normally. What could be the cause? Is it cavitation?
If inspections reveal no impurities inside the pump, but abnormal noises are heard during operation, check whether an excessive water supply volume is causing these noises. Another possibility is that the pump’s vacuum level is too high, along with a high water temperature, which leads to cavitation inside the pump; it is recommended to lower the temperature of the water entering the pump.

The main function of a soda separator is to prevent water in the suction line of the vacuum pump from entering the pump. A liquid seal is certainly the best solution if there is sufficient height; otherwise, two valves can be installed on the separator to divide it into upper and lower chambers, thereby separating them from each other – water enters the upper chamber while water is drained from the lower chamber.
