Is the precipitation in the NaOH storage tank caused by a reaction between NaOH and CO2 in the air? At room temperature, 10% NaOH solution. Thank you. . . .
Sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate both have high solubility; at this concentration, no precipitation will occur during this season. It could be hydrogen and oxygen; the sodium oxide is not pure, containing trace amounts of calcium ions, and in this case contact with air may lead to the formation of calcium carbonate precipitates.
