I’m Xiao Shuo; my undergraduate degree is in Chemical Engineering and Technology, and I obtained my master’s degree in Materials Chemical Engineering from the School of Chemical Engineering. My research focused on the synthesis and properties of new materials (similar to the molecular machines that were the subject of this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry). After graduation, I worked in an engineering company dealing with piping work (actually, it just involved using software; it wasn’t true piping work). More than two years later, I worked at a water treatment company on process-related tasks (the plans were provided by the R&D department). This company also does research and development; I feel that I am more suited for that role. I told my supervisor that I wanted to work in the R&D department, and in the end he said I could participate in the discussions there. How to get involved? What does “lead” mean?
Participating means getting involved and expressing your opinions; I guess the leader wants to see if you have what it takes, that’s all I can think of.
Maybe I wasn’t sitting properly~~~ or maybe they’re not from the leader’s team~~~

I was recruited by the leader of the engineering department; the leader mentioned here refers to the one from the engineering department as well. How can I, who am in the engineering department, attend discussions in the R&D department? I really wasn’t good at my job. At my previous employer, I worked there for over two years, and my role was simply to use 3D software to make adjustments to the drawings, in other words, I was a software operator who also did various miscellaneous tasks. Although I was in the piping department, I had no experience with actual piping work, and I still knew nothing about engineering. But I did very well on my school projects – I searched for literature, wrote reviews, conducted experiments, and wrote papers; I accomplished a lot of work, so I feel that I am better suited for research and development.
Your company is the exact opposite of ours. . We have over 100 people in R&D and over 10 in engineering; the leadership focuses on R&D rather than engineering.
Keep exercising. After all, the allocation of personnel isn’t done arbitrarily; the management must surely consider various factors before making a decision

It seems that piping starts with learning software. . .
To integrate into this society, you find that there are many positions that suit you, but things don’t go as you wish. Once again, unless you have truly exceptional skills that are unique to you, a country with a population of several billion certainly doesn’t need one more person working on research and development; just keep pushing forward slowly.
