Clause 6.4 of GB30871-2014 stipulates that the gas concentration in confined spaces must be strictly monitored. The monitoring requirements are as follows: a) Gas sampling and analysis of the confined space shall be carried out within 30 minutes prior to starting work, and entry is permitted only after the analysis shows satisfactory results； If the on-site conditions do not permit it, the time limit can be appropriately extended, but it should not exceed 60 minutes ； b) The monitoring points should be representative; for confined spaces with a large volume, monitoring and analysis should be conducted at the upper, middle, and lower sections ； c) The analysis instruments must be within their calibration validity period, and it should be ensured that they are in proper working condition before use ； d) When monitoring personnel enter or go deep into confined spaces for monitoring, they shall take the personal protective measures specified in 6.5 ； e) Monitoring should be carried out at regular intervals during the operation, at least once every 2 hours. If significant changes are detected in the monitoring results, the operation must be stopped immediately, personnel should be evacuated, and the site should be dealt with; operations can resume only after the analysis shows that everything is satisfactory ； f) Confined spaces that may release hazardous substances should be under continuous monitoring; in the event of any abnormalities, operations must be stopped immediately, personnel evacuated, the site addressed, and operations can only resume once samples have been analyzed and found to be satisfactory ； g) When applying coatings with volatile solvents, continuous monitoring should be carried out, and forced ventilation measures must be implemented ； h) If the operation interruption exceeds 60 minutes, sampling and analysis should be repeated. Question: Originally, we would conduct analyses once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but during a recent inspection, someone suggested that analysis reports should be generated every 2 hours. I don’t understand this – if monitoring is done every 2 hours, then reports must also be produced every 2 hours. But what about when monitoring is continuous? How can reports be generated in that case? I understand that sampling analysis requires an analysis report, while on-site monitoring does not require one. But the inspection team consists of experts; no one will question what those experts say. Please help discuss this, or check if there is any interpretation for this standard.

Especially in the case of continuous monitoring, it’s not correct to measure it in minutes or seconds, and it’s also not right to provide results every 2 hours – after all, since it’s continuous monitoring, what is the basis for giving results every 2 hours?
