Dear marine friends, for the pipeline systems under construction, it is necessary to use ball cleaners or pigging devices; therefore, the valves used must be of full-bore type. What types of valves meet this requirement of full bore? Thank you
Ball valves, gate valves, and check valves are all available in full-bore sizes, but the API 6D standard should be chosen.

In my opinion, it has to be a ball valve, and one that meets API 6D standards. This is because some manufacturers use ball valves with balls that are smaller than the nominal diameter of the pipeline. In the case of gate valves, especially wedge-type gate valves, the sealing surfaces are located within grooves; thus, impurities that pass through the ball do not all get inside those grooves, which could damage the sealing surfaces.
Can a stop valve also be used with a ball? Are there any related pictures?
Why is it necessary to use a ball for testing the valve? It is recommended to select the valve according to standard design principles; a dummy pipe should be connected to the valve before conducting the testing. Once the testing is successful, the actual valve can be reinstalled.
