The planned capacity of this project is 600,000 kilowatts of wind power, 400,000 kilowatts of photovoltaic power, and 1 million kilowatt-hours of energy storage. Upon completion, the project will effectively alleviate the peak-shaving pressures on the power grid in Xinjiang, reduce the rates of wind and solar energy being discarded, address the issue of integrating large-scale new energy sources into the grid, and enhance the stability and reliability of the power grid. Ultra-large-diameter low-temperature gas transmission pipes are an important component of the project’s energy storage system. In accordance with the construction requirements, these steel pipes are made from special materials using specialized manufacturing processes, with very high demands regarding the strength, toughness, and weldability of the materials. In the face of the challenges posed by this new product, Baoji Steel Pipe Karamay Co., Ltd. formulated a detailed production plan and strict quality control measures. The technical staff conducted repeated experiments to evaluate the low-temperature brittle fracture impact properties of the materials, ensuring that the selected materials met the customer’s technical requirements. During the production process, measures such as optimizing the welding materials and parameter settings were taken, ensuring that the welding quality and physical-chemical properties meet all the requirements for low-temperature storage of the medium. By participating in this major project, Baoji Steel Pipe Karamay Co., Ltd. has not only demonstrated its expertise in manufacturing high-performance steel pipes, but it has also helped to promote the company’s development in the field of global new energy storage. On October 18, 2024, the first batch of ultra-large-diameter low-temperature gas transmission pipes, manufactured by Baoji Steel Pipe Karamay Co., Ltd. for the world’s largest carbon dioxide storage power plant, was successfully produced. The diameter of these pipelines reaches 3,048 millimeters, which is equivalent to the height of a standard residential floor; moreover, they must withstand extreme conditions such as low temperatures and high pressures. The completion of these pipelines fills a gap in the pipeline manufacturing sector for the company’s parent firm, CNPC Gem Pipe Industry Co., Ltd., and also marks a technological breakthrough for Gem Pipe Industry in the field of high-end energy storage equipment manufacturing. As of November 4, Gemstone Pipe Industry has successfully produced 498 tons of ultra-large-diameter carbon dioxide gas pipes designed for use at low temperatures, to meet the needs of the world’s largest carbon dioxide energy storage facility – the HuaDian Mulei 1 million kilowatt carbon dioxide compressed air energy storage integrated energy demonstration project. This achievement marks a technological breakthrough for the company in the field of manufacturing high-end energy storage equipment.
